The Importance of Moisture
Are you tired of combing your natural hair with so much stress and pain? Is your hair frizzing out on you at the turn of every new weather? Has your hair become unmanageable due to dryness? If the answer to any of the above questions is yes, then we are together in this journey.
When hair becomes dry, it simply means that it has no water or moisture retained in it. This state of hair dehydration causes it to be matted and tangled up. The resultant effect is breakage and hair loss. But we can combat this problem by using water-based moisturizers. They help to tame and smoothen the rough and frizzy nature of the natural kinky hair.
Our hair thrives on moisture. It is to the hair what blood is to the human life. Moisture keeps the hair alive and healthy. Shampooing, daily wear and tear, and other environmental elements have the tendency of drying out moisture and oil from the hair.
When Should We Moisturize Our Hair?
We should moisturize our hair whenever we feel that the environmental air has dried out our hair or when we have our hair wash days.
How Long Does It Take Hair To Stay Moisturized?
How long it takes hair to stay moisturized depends on the following factors:
1} The Weather
2} Type of Moisturizer used
3} Type of Oil used
4} The hair’s level of porosity
5} Your hairstyle
Moisturization Of The Hair
Water is a natural moisturizer. Due to its tendency to move in and out of the hair’s cuticle and cortex, it cannot serve as the only moisturizer for our tresses. We need products that have elements of humectants, emollients, and oil to allow the hair retain additional moisture and keep it locked down.
Water-Based Moisturizers
Emollients \ Oils : Here are a list of some good emollients: Shea Butter, Jojoba Oil, Olive Oil, Vegetable Oil, Walnut Oil, Wheat Germ, Cetyl Esters. They smoothen the cuticle. They also take away the frizz and make our hair very soft.
Moisturizers: If a hair conditioner has Aloe Vera, Amino Acids, Balm Mint Extracts, then it will add softness to our hair.
Humectants: Vegetable glycerin, panthenol, and sorbitol are humectants that absorb water from the atmosphere and retain it. When they are in a conditioner, they help the hair retain water and moisture. Thereby making our tresses soft and manageable.
Some Amazing Hair Products For Fragile, Dry, Damaged, Frizzy, & Fine \ Coarse Hair
Before buying a big jar of any hair product, you can buy a small 2 oz or 4 oz container of that same product. Try the product out first on a small area at the back portion of your hair. This is to ensure that the product works well for your hair type. Do this before investing so much money into buying big containers of hair products that may not work very well with your hair texture.

Coconut oil is also able to bind to the natural protein structure of the hair. This simply means that our hair will have the ability to retain its natural moisture. The hair fiber becomes very healthy and full of strength as a result of the presence of coconut oil.
How To Moisturize Hair
On a wash day, kindly follow the process of hair wash outlined below:
During the Wash……..
A} Partition your hair into four sections.
B} Apply any hair detangling product of your choice unto each section of the partitioned hair.
C} In addition to the moisturizer, add oil to help in the detangling process.
D} Use your hand to detangle each section of the hair. Do not introduce the comb yet.
E} Cover your hair with a shower cap and stay under a hair dryer for 15 minutes.
If there is no hair dryer available, you can leave the detangling product and oil on your hair for 30 minutes.
F} Afterwards, get into the shower, turn on the water and wash your hair. During the process of washing the hair, use your hand to continue the detangling of all knotted parts, before bringing in a wide-tooth comb as a last resort. Comb your hair with the wide-tooth comb.
G} Gently pat-dry your hair with a soft towel. Never squeeze your hair with a towel.
Note… Do not use the shampoo to wash your hair. It contains dangerous and damaging chemicals that are very harmful to your hair. It causes premature graying of the hair also.
After the Wash……..
1} Now that your hair is washed, take a Leave-In hair Moisturizer such as Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie or any other water-based moisturizer you prefer and massage each of the section of the partitioned hair.
2} Apply any of these emollients such as Shea Butter, Jojoba Oil, Olive Oil, Vegetable Oil, Walnut Oil, Wheat Germ, or Aloe Vera, unto your hair to seal the hair moisturizer.
3} Detangle the sections individually with your hands once again.
4} Comb and style into your desired hairstyle.

Too many people are oblivious to the fact that fast hair growth shampoos (obviously without any sulfates, parabens or DEA) even exist. Individuals are now able to achieve longer hair and attain more options. Certainly worth checking out.
If you’re dealing with hair loss, damaged hair, preventing scalp disorders, hair growth, hair and scalp care in general, almost the same ideas become relevant.
Generally, you should try to avoid hair treatments and products that contain chemicals such as parabens, DEA or sulfates.
What’s good for your hair is beneficial for your skin all the same.
